The Scheme Advisory Board Chair, Cllr Roger Phillips has written to the new Pensions Minister Torsten Bell to welcome him to his role. The letter makes three recommendations to the Minister. Firstly, the Board has urged the Government to provide clarity for the LGPS on the impact of the judgment made in the dismissed appeal of the Virgin Media Ltd v NTL Ltd case in July 2024. Secondly, the letter recommends that the Government increases the limit on the payments that can be made to a deceased person’s personal representatives ahead of probate being granted. And thirdly, the letter recommends that the Minister sets the timetable for Phase 2 of the Pensions Review.
